Our pledge to Havering residents

"There is no power for change greater than a community discovering what it cares about."

~ Margaret J. Wheatley ~

We have been there for you!

COVID-19 has put paid to what we used to know as normal. It has placed unexpected challenges on some of us more than others. Residents have found themselves furloughed, redundant, businesses unable to trade, the need to seek financial support and children homeschooled, but the most upsetting loss is that of loved ones. Our thoughts go out to families and friends of those who have died as a consequence of contracting COVID-19.

Throughout the pandemic H.R.A Councillors have been there for you and have continued to support their residents with day-to-day concerns including planning applications, potholes, street litter, fly-tipping, fly-posting, street-lights, road markings, parking issues, mental health and dementia support, refuse collections, housing repairs and tenancy issues, flooding, anti-social behaviour, shrub and tree maintenance, maintenance of car park ticket machines, children in care, parking contravention notices, the homeless and road works.

However, since last March they have been actively supporting residents with COVID related challenges including, shopping and collecting medications for the shielded and vulnerable, making face-covers to raise funds for the local Foodbank, working with the local police teams and GP practices, Dementia choir via Zoom, working in and with the volunteer centre, befriending telephone calls, helping families gain access to food hampers, supporting families needing to access Universal Credit, directing volunteers to the NHS and volunteer centre, a campaign to get IT equipment out to families, linking agencies and partners with Havering, getting answers to questions and concerns over green waste collections, the availability of orange sacks, the opening of Gerpins Lane, clarifying the confusion over parking restrictions, access to parking permits, access to business support, instigating the change of date for the closure of a local store that the public are dependent on during lockdown, and signposting residents to partner agencies.

The roll-out of the vaccine appears to the be light at the end of the tunnel, with a slow move out of lockdown, and we would like to reassure you that we are here to help you in whatever way we can as your representatives, who continue to care for our communities.
